New to Piqua  (United States)

I am new here, I don't know anyone or anything about the RC world for that matter. I have flown alot of hobby shop grade almost heli's as in the CCPM style but never a plane. I am very interested moving on towards winged aircraft these days. I moved to Sidney for work reasons (I work in Piqua) last football season, and have been working alot the past year and have not even bothered with a social life or a hobby to mention it. I am finally relaxed and getting settled into the Miami Valley.

I am not interested in any aerobatics or stunt flying, but I do worry that the typical trainer will become very boring to me very fast. Almost gives me chills to think of paying $300 for a Cub that I will detest or be bored with in a matter of a couple dozen flights. That's not to say that I am looking at a SR-71 Blackbird EDF as a starter plane either. I just want something I can grow with and I am worried that a 40 stick or Cub will not be much fun for me too soon in the future.

I very much dig the WWII birds such as the Messerschmitts, Mig 1 & Mig 3's, Tupolev's, P-40 Warhawk, Spitfires and of course the beloved Mustangs. I know these mid and bottom winged planes are not suggested as trainers, but I have some confidence as I have flow sims for a couple years now. The thing is I am very much leaning toward electric and hope that doesn't offend too many people. I am growing ever confident of battery technology, especially in the hobby world. I am been a subscriber to several magazines for about a couple years now and am finally ready to take a plunge.

I hope to find a good trainer within the FF's. The first real radio I just bought last week was a Spektrum DX6i so I need a Spektrum/JR trainer to work with. I think this is too lengthy for an intro so I will leave it at that. See you at the field!

Re: New to Piqua  (United States)

Well Mr. ereislabhunter, A belated welcome to our neglected fourm.  Sorry, no one has contacted you before now, but this is a new year and we have new officers installed and maybe we will try to do a better job. FYI , there is an upcoming event on the 9th of this month at Celina High School. It's a huge R/C swap meet and you might be able to find something you might like there. Also our club will be attending a get together at the New Museum in Urbana at the full scale airport (Grimes Field) on the north side of town on Rt.68 Jan. 15th around 10 am. My name is Lee Vestal and I would be glad to meet you there or call me at 937-726-4902 if you have any questions.

Hello erieslabhunter, I am new to this forum.  saw your post and decided to register so I could reply.  I live in Sidney, at Dorothy Love.  I would like to meet another RC flyer from Sidney.  I fly electric, parkflyers, bild my own. A friend and I are going to the swapmeet in Urbana Saturday.  We are leaving about 8:30.  If you would like to ride along give me a shout at 937-492-3969.
